RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education has released a response to comments made by the school district’s superintendent Nicole Swigart.

CONTEXT: RCAS superintendent apologizes for reported comments on US DOE Office of Civil Rights letter

The board apologizes for Swigart’s comments about Native American students and is putting the superintendent on leave for 30 days.

Here is the board’s response to the OCR Resolution Letter:

We contacted RCAS to ask if the leave superintendent Swigart is required to take was unpaid or paid, and if the leave was paid, were taxpayers footing the bill? We received an answer: “We can only say what’s in the statement.”

Although we did not get a clear response from the district, Swigart did give us her thoughts on the board’s decision.
