PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Starting next month, the U.S. will start mandating Canadian visitors register as foreign nationals to be here for more than 30 days.

This is a longstanding policy that will be required to be enforced beginning April 11, and the Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation is already seeing it impact Arizona tourism.

Greater Phoenix Chamber’s Mike Huckins said with the tense trade relations between the U.S. and Canada and now the added enforcement, they’re seeing more Canadian travelers change their travel plans and are concerned more will pull back from traveling to the desert.

“Anything into that, that is going to be less revenue for the state, which again is concerning,” Huckins said. “We have a lot of snowbirds that come in from Canada for long periods of time. Arizona is kind of famous for it, so a little concerned about some of those visitors delaying or ending their plans to come for an extended amount of time.”
