Police have issued a warning about a rather unusual series of thefts that have happened in an Ontario city.
Ottawa police said in a news release that they are investigating “a recent spike in overnight airbag thefts.”
Police said the thefts have happened in the city’s east end and have targeted late-model Honda Civics.
“The week of April 14th, police received over a dozen reports of airbags being stolen from Civics parked outdoors,” police said.
“In each incident, the targeted vehicles appeared largely undamaged, with no other items reported missing by the majority of complainants.”
Many of the cars have alarm systems and most of the victims said their vehicle doors were locked at the time, police said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Ottawa police or Crime Stoppers.
