The first baby born in 2025 at an Edmonton hospital was an eight-pound girl at Grey Nuns Community Hospital, according to Covenant Health.

She was born at 12:29 a.m., weighing eight pounds, two ounces, the health provider says.

She had not been named by her parents Sukhdeep Kaur and Jasleen Singh Chohan as of Wednesday afternoon.

She was not the first baby born in the Edmonton health zone, however.

Oliver, a nine-pound and one-ounce boy, was born at 12:18 a.m. at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert to Danielle and Brandyn Morrison.
