All Niagara-bound lanes on QEW will be closed to traffic [Video]

Maintenance work carried out by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will close lanes on the Burlington Skyway this week.

The bridge that carries the QEW over Hamilton Harbour will see all Niagara-bound lanes closed overnight.

The closure will begin at 10 p.m. on April 9 and last until 6 a.m. on April 10.

Traffic through the area will be detoured along Eastport Drive, with signs leading drivers along the alternate route.

In the case of inclement weather, this closure will be rescheduled.

The work on the bridge comes two years after extensive work that was carried out on the Skyway that led to numerous lane closures on and off for several months.

Those closures in 2023 left drivers frustrated, as many complained that they occurred during high-volume traffic periods.

Niagara Region politicians also complained that frequent lane closures then were interfering with the tourist industry during peak holiday times. …
