An Amber Alert that was issued for both Quebec and Ontario for a five-year-old boy on Tuesday has been cancelled after the child was found safe.

The boy had initially gone missing at around 6 p.m. Monday from Brossard, a community in the Greater Montreal Area. Police had said they were also looking for a vehicle with Ontario licence plates and a 65-year-old woman.

The alert was first sent to those in Quebec during the early hours of Tuesday, followed by Ontarians just before 7:30 a.m.

By 10:19 a.m., the alert was cancelled.

Police said the boy was found safe in Ontario, just north of Toronto in York Region.

Quebec police say he was unharmed and will be returned to the province.
