Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) reports that a Canadian wolf relocated to Colorado has died in Wyoming.

CPW said in a press release that they were informed of the wolf’s death on April 9. CPW coordinated with Wyoming Game and Fish for the return of the wolf’s tracking collar. Wyoming state law prevents further details from being shared.

Wolf 2513 was part of the group of wolves introduced to Colorado from British Columbia earlier this year as part of the state’s reintroduction program. Although the wolf was relocated to Colorado, CPW says it is normal for the animals to travel long distances to find food or mates, including into other states.

This death is the second to take place in Wyoming for the British Columbia wolves reintroduced to Colorado, with another male wolf from the group dying in March.

CPW said it will not comment further on wolf 2513’s death, as it happened outside of Colorado.
