In Ontario, short-term disability benefits provide financial assistance if you are temporarily unable to work due to illness or injury. These benefits typically come through your employer’s group insurance plan or a private policy. They are designed to cover 60% to 100% of your income during your recovery period and can last up to 26 weeks, sometimes as long as 52 weeks. The waiting period before benefits begin can be anywhere from one to 14 days.
