April 1 weather: Sunny skies ahead of thunderstorms across southern Ontario [Video]

There should be mostly clear skies across southern Ontario on Tuesday ahead of thunderstorms that could bring up to 50 mm of rain to parts of the province.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement saying there’s “significant rainfall” expected midweek across the Greater Toronto Area and southern parts of the province.

The storm is expected to start on Wednesday, but the weather agency is forecasting mostly clear skies on Tuesday.

Tuesday will see a daytime high around 5 C but will feel more like -7 C to -9 C with the wind chill in the early morning hours in Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, and could be even colder in Hamilton.

Skies will be mostly sunny during the day but will become cloudy into the evening with increased cover overnight in the GTA, Oshawa, Durham Region, and the Niagara Falls area.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s storm, Environment Canada says southwestern Ontario will be hit first before the system moves into the Golden Horseshoe area …
