April storms: Aleutians & southwest coast [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage hit a new record daily high on Thursday with 52 degrees, besting the previous record of 51 degrees from 1958! The hot spot was Wasilla with 59 degrees and the cold spot goes to Shishmaref, where temperatures dropped to 18 degrees below zero.

While nice April weather conditions were felt around southcentral, it was blowing snow and high winds impacting the eastern Aleutians. A winter storm warning is in effect there. And a blizzard warning (Kuskokwim delta coast and Nunivak Island) and winter weather advisory (Nunivak Island to the Yukon delta coast) begin overnight.

A large circulation of low pressure moves into the Gulf of Alaska overnight and displaces a ridge of high pressure to the east. April rain and snow for the mountains will impact much of southern Alaska.
