ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Asheville Police Department is welcoming new K-9 officer, Milo!

The department said Milo is a black Labrador Retriever that will specialize in bomb detection.

“Labs like Milo are perfect for this important role due to their incredible sense of smell, which is estimated to be 10,000 to 100,000 times more sensitive than humans,” the department said. “Combine that with their friendly demeanor, high intelligence, and eagerness to work, and you’ve got the ideal partner for keeping our community safe.”

Officials said Milo will be working alongside Senior Police Officer Liz Rice and other skilled APD officers to detect explosives in critical situations, helping ensure safety at events, public spaces, and beyond.
