Assault charges laid in Sarnia [Video]

Multiple charges have been laid against a suspect in a Sarnia assault.

On Saturday just before 7 p.m., Sarnia Police Service officers were called to a church on Christina Street and London Road for reports of an assault.

Police said upon meeting with the victim, a 23-year-old man, they found out he had been alone inside the church. When the victim was praying, an unknown man came up from behind him and allegedly tried to strangle him with a ligature.

The victim escaped, running from the church for help after a struggle. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Police searched the area for the suspect. An investigation showed the suspect tried to get rid of the security camera at the church before running, according to the SPS.
