Austin police investigate 28th homicide of 2025 [Video]

The incident happened in the 9800 block of Halifax Drive, near East Rundberg Lane and Dessau Road.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police have launched a homicide investigation after an incident in northeast Austin on Friday night.

Police said they got a 911 call just before 11 p.m. The caller reportedly gave an address in the 9800 block of Halifax Drive – near East Rundberg Lane and Dessau Road – and quickly hung up. Dispatchers tried calling back, but no one picked up.

When Austin-Travis County EMS got to the scene, medics found a person with serious injuries and immediately started life-saving efforts. They also called for police backup.

Austin Police Department officers arrived shortly after and detained another person at the scene, now being called a person of interest.

Despite medics doing everything they could, the injured person did not survive.

This is being investigated as Austin’s 28th homicide of …
