SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Canada geese are becoming more aggressive this time of year, a behavior tied to their nesting season.

Wildlife expert Josh Wisdom, a wildlife damage biologist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, says this can result from getting too close to eggs. It can lead to a wild goose chase with hissing and even the bird jumping on top of you!

These nesting spots are often found in unexpected places, including urban environments.

“Sometimes it’s on like the flat roofs of buildings,” said Wisdom. “Sometimes it’s in flower pots, little parking lot islands, places where there’s usually a lot of foot traffic,” Wisdom explained. “As a person approaches that nesting site, a lot of times they see them as a threat, and they’ll usually hiss or even try to flog them sometimes, kind of jumping on top of their head or jumping on top of their shoulders.”
