From a way to pass the time at the cottage to a Toronto backyard league to what is now a global axe-throwing phenomenon, BATL Grounds has come a very long way in the past 19 years.

BATL Grounds – short for Backyard Axe Throwing League – is considered the pioneer of the fast-growing sport of urban axe throwing, with its roots at the cottage with founder Matt Wilson and a group of bored friends who decided to throw an axe at a stump.

Now with 18 locations – including six in the USA – BATL Grounds offers axe throwing and other innovative and adrenaline-fueled activities unlike other experiences.

The company announced the completion of its latest expansion Tuesday, with the opening of completely upgraded venues at the original location in the Toronto Port Lands and at its largest venue in Pickering
