Police are searching for three suspects after a violent, gunpoint bank robbery in Ajax, Ont.

The armed break-in happened around 8:40 a.m. on Monday at the Equity Credit Union on Kingston Road East in Ajax, Durham Regional Police say.

The bank was closed when an employee approaching the front doors was grabbed by suspects who physically forced their way inside the building, police say.

A second employee was held at gunpoint while suspects demanded entry to the vault.

But the intruders failed to break into the vault and stole personal items and cash from the victims before fleeing the area in a black sedan.

One victim was injured during the break-ing and was assessed by paramedics at the scene, police say.

Investigators are asking the public to help identify the three suspects.
