What would Grease look like if it were Indigenous? That question sparked the inspiration behind Bear Grease, a groundbreaking adaptation of the classic musical. 

Created by Los Angeles-based hip-hop duo LightningCloud, comprised of Crystle Lightning and MC RedCloud (Henry Andrade), the show—which has captivated audiences across North America for the past three years—makes its stop in North Vancouver at Centennial Theatre on November 8.

For Lightning, growing up without seeing Indigenous representation in mainstream media made a significant impact on her. 

“We had to create our own narrative, because those opportunities didn’t exist,” she reflects. Bear Grease is a joyful, witty response to this absence, offering a fresh perspective on a beloved musical while showcasing Indigenous talent and culture.
