Bear spray used on security guard during robbery at Ontario mall, police say [Video]

Police have charged a man and a teenager from Hamilton who robbed a Nike and used bear mace against an employee at an Ontario mall.

The Halton Regional Police Service says the robbery happened on May 2 around 6 p.m. at the Nike store inside the Mapleview Shopping Centre in Burlington.

Police say the suspects stole clothing items from the store and fled with mall security giving chase.

That led to a confrontation in the mall parking lot where one of the suspects “used bear spray” on a security guard before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Police say the security officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation led police to a vehicle that had been previously reported stolen in Hamilton, as well as two suspects who were arrested on Saturday.
