Biggest snowstorm of the year expected across southern Ontario [Video]

All of southern Ontario is now under special weather statements or watches ahead of a big winter storm this week.

In an updated alert, Environment and Climate Change said the winter storm could bring snow and freezing rain starting late Wednesday into Thursday.

Snowfall amounts could exceed 15 cm in the GTA and across southern Ontario. Areas near Windsor could get up to 10 cm of snow.

Total snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm are expected in areas north of the GTA including Barrie, Muskoka and the Peterborough area.

Poor visibility in heavy snow and local blowing snow is expected.

The low-pressure system is expected to move in Wednesday evening and end Thursday.

Significant snowfall is likely for the area beginning Wednesday evening, Environment Canada said.
