Bill introduced to create Missing BIPOC Women and Girls Task Force [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A push was made Wednesday in Columbus to pass a measure that would create a task force to address underreported cases of missing women and girls who are Black, indigenous, or people of color.

One of those behind the effort is Elesondra Deromano, the founder of STARS Toledo. She shared her own experience of being trafficked.

“The first thing I said when police kicked the door in, the first words out of my mouth were, ‘Was anybody looking for me?’ and their answer was, ‘No.’ How can nobody look for an 11-year-old child?” Deromano said. “But, the minute a Caucasian person goes missing, we see more emphasis on it. Why is that? A child is a child. There should be no color to who we’re looking for.”
