Dark-Eyed Juncos are ground feeders and are also known as “Snow Birds” that migrate south from northern New England and Canada in the fall. One of the juncos in the video is running its beak along the dried blade of grass to get the seeds off. This is very common behavior for them and why these little seed eaters are seen in just about every backyard in the winter.
White-Breasted Nuthatch- Bird banding has provided us with a lot of information, including how long a particular bird has lived, and many times, it is longer than what the average lifespan was believed to be. The oldest known White-Breasted Nuthatch, found in Colorado in 1971, was at least 9 years, 9 months old.
