North Country residents could soon be seeing military helicopters patrolling the United States – Canada border thanks to new efforts from Canadian authorities.The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be using Black Hawk helicopters to patrol the skies over the border in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, according to a community advisory issued by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service.Akwesasne Mohawk Police said the choppers are not pursuing an active threat, but rather will be part of “broader security efforts” and could be used alongside drones and surveillance towers near the border.The helicopters may also operate at low altitudes, but officials said efforts will be made to minimize noise for residents in these operating areas.
