RAPID CITY, S.D. – More wrestlers and wrestling fans have turned out for the Black Hills National tournament than ever before.
That’s thanks to the event moving to Rapid City for the first time after a twenty year run in Spearfish.
The tournament is being held this weekend at the Kjerstad Event Center, which allows for more wrestling mats and seating for fans.
Tournament Director Frank Pavich says there’s been more than 2,000 entries and 250 teams registered for the tournament from 28 states, and even Canada.
Pavich says shifting to Rapid City was the right move.
“We like the change a lot, everything with logistics was kind of, just kind of a mystery, but the mystery’s solved. We really like this venue where we’re at,” Pavich says. “We recognized that we need to grow our tournament. We needed to grow for the fans, and this gave us the opportunity …
