A Whitby man is in custody after police said he used a lit blow torch to attempt a daylight robbery Wednesday morning.
Durham Police said the would-be victim was walking near Dundas Street and Anne Street, just before 6 a.m. when the suspect approached wielding a lit blowtorch and “demanding their personal property.”
The victim was able to fight back and escape. No physical injuries were reported.
London Bossio, 28, was taken into custody a short distance away.
Bossio has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon (blow torch) and breach of probation.
He was held for a bail hearing
