BONNERS FERRY, Idaho – The Bonners Ferry City Council voted to continue displaying the Canadian flag on city grounds, despite a directive from Idaho’s Attorney General.
The council’s decision came earlier this week, choosing to declare a year-long special occasion to honor Canadian neighbors. This decision acts as an exception to House Bill 96, issued by the Attorney General’s office in late April.
The bill allows official flags of other countries to be displayed only on special occasions. Bonners Ferry is not the only city opposing the bill.
Boise has been flying the rainbow flag on city government property for several years and has not removed it following the bill’s passage.
