As former Mississauga mayor and current Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie launches her election campaign, her competition in the riding of Mississauga East-Cooksville is not the only one with strong local political ties.
Silvia Gualtieri, the Progressive Conservative candidate in the riding, is the mother-in-law of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown and sister of Mississauga-Lakeshore MPP Rudy Cuzzetto.
Gualtieri’s daughter Genevieve married Brown in 2018. Her brother has been a Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament since 2018.
The riding of Mississauga East-Cooksville is wide open with no incumbent seeking re-election.
Khaleed Rasheed has held that seat since being elected as a Conservative in 2018. However, he left the PC caucus in 2023 over the Greenbelt scandal and has since said he will not be running again.
The NDP and the Green Party have not yet announced their candidates for the riding.
