Boston Avenue hosts first United Methodist Church Indigenous bishop for Lenten Lecture series | News [Video]

TULSA, Okla. — Boston Avenue United Methodist Church (BAUMC) is hosting the 63rd annual installment of their Lenten Lecture series. 

The series brings distinguished guest speakers from across the country to Tulsa to speak to congregations during Lent. 

This year’s guest is Bishop Dr. David M. Wilson, the first Native American bishop in the United Methodist Church. 

Reverend Dr. Wilson’s lectures will focus on the history of indigenous tribes in Oklahoma and their relationship with the church and with the government. 

Bishop Wilson is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and is the leader of the Great plains Conference of The United Methodist Church. 

The first lecture was on March 8 and discussed the history of the Native American tribes in Oklahoma. The discussion focused on their spiritual practices and relationships with the church and with the government.
