Boy Scouts reach new heights with Camp Roosevelt, Maine Instrument Flight [Video]

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Boy Scouts attending Camp Roosevelt reached new heights Wednesday.

Every summer, scouts from across the country attend the camp in Eddington to participate in outdoor and STEM activities.

At Bangor Aviation, those two things were combined as the scouts got to learn the ins and outs of planes and even hop on a flight!

This was thanks to Maine Instrument Flight, an Augusta-based flight school that recently expanded to Bangor and Brunswick in the past two months.

Since the expansion, Flight Instructor Savage Bloomer wanted to create community connections.

”I’m an Eagle Scout myself. I went to Camp Roosevelt in the Eddington area as a kid, so when we expanded from Augusta to Bangor, I was put in contact with Randy, the leader of Camp Roosevelt and was thrilled to be part of the aviation merit badge,” Bloomer recalls.

Bloomer gave the scouts the full tour of the Beechcraft Sundowner aircraft as he walked through pilots’ pre-flight inspections.
