Two people fled the scene of a fiery crash in Metro Vancouver early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

A red Mercedes was seen speeding in southeast Vancouver around 3:30 a.m., police told CTV news in an email, adding that the driver was also seen running a red light.

“Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled and crashed into a tree,” spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin wrote, noting that the crash happened at an intersection in Burnaby.

“The vehicle caught on fire and the driver and passenger fled the area. No arrests have been made.”

The investigation, Visintin added, is ongoing.
