Calgary weather: Mild Thursday with mixed precipitation across central and southern Alberta Friday [Video]

After a very warm Wednesday where Calgary saw a high near 9 C and wind gusts just under 80 km/h, Thursday will be mild.

Under clear skies, the overnight temperatures Thursday were colder than Wednesday, in part because nocturnal cloud cover can double as an insulator for outgoing longwave radiation from the Earth’s surface.

Clear conditions will continue throughout the day Thursday with a westerly component to the winds, however a slight influence from the north will temper the intensity of the wind and cap temperatures across the region.

In Calgary, the forecast high Thursday is 3 C, or six degrees warmer than average, with another increase in temperatures expected Friday.

A low pressure system moving along the northern portions of Alberta and B.C. will introduce colder air and potentially some freezing rain north of the capital region early Friday.
