Canada housing market: Why climate risk should factor into where you choose to live

Real estate and insurance experts are urging the Canadian government to begin to work on creating a home rating program based on the risk to a house posed by weather extremes.

This type of weather-risk data is increasingly available in American states like Florida – a state that is increasingly subject to the whims of climate change through storm surges and hurricanes.

But in Canada, homebuyers are largely flying blind – with little ability to determine how weather threats could impact property values.

As our Kam Razavi explains, experts say climate risk should be considered when choosing where to set down roots.
