India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., captured gold on Friday, the final day of World Cup ski cross racing in Reiteralm, Austria.
Ottawa’s Hannah Schmidt earned bronze for her third podium finish of the season despite a crash with teammate Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., who placed fourth.
The two Canadians did not finish the race and were tended to by medical personnel on the course.
Fanny Smith of Switzerland claimed silver.
“I am super happy with the win, but … I am a little bit frazzled. With the two girls that went down, it’s hard not to be concerned about them,” Sherret said after her second victory of the season. “I saw Brit ski down, but obviously, I am worried about Hannah. Hopefully, they are OK, and after that, I will let myself be happy.”
Sherret, 28, told Alpine Canada she has focused on skiing relaxed, knowing her plan and executing.
