A top Canadian politician has suggested some U.S. states should leave and join their neighbors to the north after Donald Trump‘s threats to take over the country.
Canada’s Green Party leader Elizabeth May suggested the three liberal west coast states of California, Oregon and Washington would be better off becoming part of the Great White North.
She said they would benefit from universal healthcare and stricter gun laws if they chose to secede.
It came after Ontario premier Doug Ford floated a counteroffer to buy two U.S. states – Alaska and Minnesota for Canada.
Both comments came in response to Trump’s suggestion that Canada become the 51st U.S. state – a sentiment that started as a joke last month, but in recent weeks has become a serious proposal by the president-elect.
