PARIS – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the impact of newly imposed U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum during the Paris Artificial Intelligence Summit.

Trudeau emphasized Canada’s firm stance against these tariffs, stating, “Canadians will stand up strongly and firmly if we need to.”

On Monday, President Trump raised tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 25%, aiming to boost the sector but risking a trade war.

Trudeau highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two countries, saying, “Imports of Canadian aluminum and steel create thousands if not millions of jobs and support families across the United States. We have been doing things together in an extraordinary and integrated way for many, many years and we will look to continue to work with our closest ally and partner. We should be doing more together, not fighting with each other.”
