Canadians could be going to the polls this spring for a snap election.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to dissolve parliament on Sunday and announce the date for the election.

The federal election date will be on April 28, according to multiple reports.

Carney was sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister in a ceremony at Rideau Hall on March 14.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as Liberal leader on Jan. 6, following more than a year of plummeting poll numbers and surging pressure from within his own caucus to step aside.

While the Conservatives were far ahead in the polls in December, the gap has narrowed in recent weeks.
