Canadian Tourism to Erie Down 20 percent – Erie News Now [Video]

    Tourism is a big part of our local economy. In March it was reported to leaders of VisitErie that Canadian tourism is down 20 percent to Erie. A larger decline is expected for April.  Factors such as the currency value and rising tension between the United States and Canada are contributing to the recent drop.

    Early last month the Trump Administration placed U.S. tariffs of 25 per cent on Canadian goods.  According to the White House, President Trump is taking what he calls bold action to hold several countries including Canada accountable to their promises of halting illegal immigration.
