Cantrell Travels Again Amid Legal Battle Over City Travel Ban [Video]

On Tuesday, a civil court judge ruled in favor of the mayor’s request for a temporary restraining order on the travel ban, and soon after, the mayor was off to D.C.

NEW ORLEANS — The battle between New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the City Council over city-funded travel continues as the mayor is out of town for yet another mayor’s conference.

On Thursday, the City of New Orleans announced that Cantrell will join mayors from across the country in Washington, D.C., to participate in the Canada-Mexico-USA Mayors Trade Summit. The mayors will focus on the critical role that North American trade plays in the success of the metropolitan economy.

The New Orleans City Council imposed a ban on travel after Mayor Cantrell backed out of a settlement that would support the public school system, which is dealing with a multi-million-dollar shortfall and claims the city is facing a budget crisis.
