WASHINGTON — An Indiana man who attempted to seek asylum in Canada instead of reporting to prison for his role in the Capitol riot now faces a new criminal charge for failing to surrender.

Antony Vo, 32, was arrested by Canadian immigration authorities in British Columbia last week. According to a filing in federal court in D.C. on Wednesday, Vo remained in Canadian custody while his removal proceedings moved forward.

According to charging documents, Vo entered the U.S. Capitol as part of the pro-Trump mob on Jan. 6 and remained inside for nearly 30 minutes. An image included in a sentencing memo shows Vo holding up an American flag in the Rotunda while standing next to his mother, Annie Vo, who has also been charged.
