Carousel Child Advocacy Center shares advice for Child Abuse Prevention Month [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and a local organization is sharing prevention advice and ways to respond to children who disclose.

The Carousel Child Advocacy Center works with children from Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. In total, 431 child abuse cases were under review in those three counties this past year.

Amy Feath, Executive Director of the Carousel Child Advocacy Center, poses this question:

“What are ways we can work together as adults in the community to not make it the child’s responsibility to prevent their abuse and neglect,” asks Feath.

Feath says as a community, we must ask questions instead of ignoring the signs.

“We have to be willing to say ‘Hey, where are your grown-ups?’ if we see a child that doesn’t look like they have grown-ups around,” said Feath. We don’t have the luxury as adults in our community to say …
