It was almost the purr-fect crime.

Authorities in Costa Rica said a cat was caught attempting to enter a prison with drugs attached to its body earlier this month in a creative drug-smuggling attempt to evade jail guards.

The country’s Ministry of Justice and Peace shared video of the kitten walking along a security fence and being captured by a prison guard using a towel.

Once inside, penitentiary staff used scissors to slowly cut apart and remove what they said were packets of marijuana and crack-cocaine taped around the feline’s torso on the night of May 6.

“Penitentiary police officers at the Pococi prison managed to rescue a kitten carrying two drug packages attached to its body,” prison officials wrote on Facebook, according to an English translation.

“The officer stationed at one of the forts spotted the animal in the green zone and immediately raised the alarm.”
