The City of Windsor is making a change in the new year in an effort to reduce your wastewater charges on your water bills.

The city said it is introducing a new way to pay. Your current water bill already has a single combined fee that helps fund wastewater and stormwater management.

Come January, the fees will be separated, and the stormwater will be based on your property’s water runoff contribution to the sewer system.

“This also means that properties with large non-absorbent surfaces, like big-box stores with large parking lots, will pay their fair share for using the stormwater system,” read a post on Windsor’s website.

This new plan, the Fair Share plan, aims at creating an equitable system for residents where many will see a lower overall cost.
