Columbiana County Commissioners support withdrawal from solar energy company [Video]

Despite losing out on this major project, county commissioners say they are happy with the decision to pull the plug in Franklin Township.

Plans to develop solar energy fields in Columbiana County have been put on pause until further notice.  The Canadian-based company Kensington Solar, has withdrawn their application to complete the project.

The leased several acres of land a few years ago in hopes of adding 300,000 panels throughout Franklin Township.

Despite losing out on this major project, county commissioners say they are happy with the decision to pull the plug.

County commissioner Mike Halleck, attributed the company’s decision to overwhelming opposition from county leaders and residents. 

“When you are taking [the land of] 200-year-old family farms, an old one room school house, or the older Catholic churches in the community,  there’s some historic value […] and there was a concern about that,” Halleck said.
