Could a subway be coming to Square One in Mississauga? [Video]

Extending a subway line from Toronto to Square One in Mississauga is a notion Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie embraces.

The idea has been tabled numerous times over the past several decades, but former longtime Mississauga mayor and political icon Hazel McCallion wasn’t in favour of such a plan.

Today, though, Canada’s seventh-largest city possesses the population density to make a subway plan feasible, Crombie, who served as Mississauga’s mayor from 2014 until January 2024, told INsauga.com publisher Khaled Iwamura in an interview this week (see video below).

“You know, that had been proposed when Hazel (McCallion) was first mayor and she didn’t want the TTC running in Mississauga, but I would be completely open to that today, for that connectivity, as long as the provincial government is going to fund that,” said Crombie, who’s taking on Ontario Premier Doug Ford and NDP leader Marit Stiles in the provincial election …
