Councillors, players happy iconic Ontario hockey team is not moving [Video]

A young councillor who cast the deciding vote to build the Tribute Communities Centre more than 20 years ago and an even younger homegrown hockey star who would put an exclamation point on an already momentous day later that night, were both having troubles wiping the smiles off their faces after Tuesday’s announcement that the Oshawa Generals would be staying in town for at least the next 30 years.

In the case of overager Luke Torrance, an Oshawa Minor Hockey product who grew up watching the team play at the downtown arena, his happiness could be attributed to the fact he was asked about the deal after he had just scored a dramatic double-overtime goal to give his side a commanding 3-0 lead in the Ontario Hockey League eastern conference final.
