A video documenting a surprising home renovation discovery has captivated millions of viewers as a couple realized their wallpaper was hiding what could be some serious structural issues.

The clip was posted on February 23 by @englishcountryestate, a TikTok account dedicated to sharing updates about renovating a 17th-century home. The video, which can be seen here, has amassed 2.2 million views since it was shared and sparked a wave of reactions from TikTok users.

The footage shows a man standing on a ladder, carefully peeling off old wallpaper using a tool. However, as the layers come off, large, deep cracks across the exposed wall are revealed.

The text overlaid on the video sums up the couple’s realization: “When you decide to strip the wallpaper and decide maybe the wallpaper was holding the house together.”

The caption accompanying the video adds another touch of humor: “Just a little paint and it will be fine.”
