Cowtown Roughstock: Nurturing the Next Gen [Video]

In the thrilling world of saddle bronc riding, young cowboys face the ultimate challenge: holding on for eight seconds against a bucking bronc. Thanks to the Cowtown Roughstock, a non-profit group in Maple Creek, aspiring riders are getting the chance to sharpen their skills and chase that elusive 8-second glory. Founded by Allan Bandy, an experienced rodeo rider from Australia, the group offers young cowboys aged 18-25 the opportunity to practice twice a month.

On any given evening, the Maple Creek arena comes alive with the excitement of young riders ready to test their abilities. Horses are carefully sorted based on the riders’ skill levels, and volunteers help prepare the arena and equipment. Beyond the competition, the event fosters a sense of community, with spectators and past rodeo participants showing up to cheer on the riders.
