RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The second Monday in October marks the celebration of Native Americans Day. The original holiday was proposed in 1990 by Governor George S. Mickelson.

Today, Crazy Horse Memorial celebrates Native American culture, and all of the special programming is included with admission.

Beyond the excitement of performances and interactive activities, the memorial is announcing its Educator of the Year Award. The award honors someone who has made significant contributions to Native American education in the previous year.

Bryant High Horse was presented with the 2024 Educator of the Year award for his work as director of Oyate Woyaka: The People Speak. The movie highlights Lakota language speakers and their journey through language and spirituality to heal historical trauma.
