A vacant three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue has been demolished after its third fire since 2023.
Firefighters were called to the blaze around 7:47 p.m. Friday. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a vacant three-storey apartment building. Since it wasn’t safe to enter, firefighters launched an exterior attack and used aerial trucks to get the fire under control.
The building sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. According to the city, the vacant property was previously damaged by other blazes last January and in August 2023.
As a precaution, several neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated. No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Around 3:48 a.m. Saturday, crews were called to another vacant house fire in Winnipeg’s Spence neighbourhood.
