Crime rates fall in Detroit in 2024 [Video]

Detroit, Mich. has seen a historic drop in crime rates, thanks to partnerships between the government and local agencies.

In 2024, Detroit saw a fall in homicides, non-fatal shootings and carjackings.

Homicides

In 2023, there were 252 homicides. In 2024, that number dropped by 19 per cent to 203.

Non-fatal shootings

In 2023, there were 804 non-fatal shootings in the city. In 2024, it was 606, resulting in a 25 per cent fall.

Carjackings

In 2024, Detroit saw 142 carjackings, compared to 2023’s 167. That was a 15 per cent drop.

In 2016, Detroit introduced Project Green Light, aiming at improving community safety.

“This coalition came together two years ago to try to reverse the spike in violent crime during COVID,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

“What’s happened is far more remarkable.”
