Criminal negligence charges in death of infant: OPP [Video]

Two people are facing charges following the death of a nine-month-old infant in Saugeen First Nation.

On March 26, 2023, police say they were called to a residence Scotch Settlement Road for reports of an unresponsive infant.

The child was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.

An investigation by OPP has resulted in charges for Michael Ranton, 33 of Saugeen Shores, and Dakota Roote-Besito, 28 of Saugeen First Nation. They have each each charged with criminal negligence causing death.

Both are in custody pending a bail hearing today.
